SHERIDAN, WYOMING – April 29, 2025 – Travelers looking for a design-savvy retreat steeped in charm and character have a new reason to visit Kingston, New York. Hotel Kinsley, the city’s first true destination hotel, has officially joined the prestigious Design Hotels collection—bringing a new level of recognition and global exposure to this upstate gem.
A Thoughtful Blend of Heritage and Modern Design
Located in the heart of Kingston’s historic Stockade District, Hotel Kinsley is more than just a place to stay—it’s an immersive experience. Spread across four beautifully restored 19th-century buildings, including a former bank and a schoolhouse, the property artfully blends the city’s rich history with contemporary, boutique elegance.
Guests check in at the flagship location—301 Wall Street—inside what was once the State Bank of New York. The space was designed by Studio Robert McKinley and still features the original bank vault, reimagined as a welcoming focal point.
The remaining three buildings at 41 Pearl Street, 270 Fair Street, and 24 John Street were thoughtfully designed by Vanessa Guilford of TOCCI and Aviva Blaichman, maintaining architectural authenticity while introducing refined, modern aesthetics.
Sophisticated Stays With Homey Touches
Hotel Kinsley’s 42 guest rooms offer a warm yet elevated experience, with each space featuring vintage-inspired furnishings, curated artwork, and high-end amenities.
Guests can enjoy:
- Fireplaces in select rooms for cozy evenings
- Luxurious soaking tubs for relaxation
- Carefully chosen décor that reflects Kingston’s creative spirit
Operated by Ironwave Hospitality Management, the hotel doesn’t just cater to travelers—it invites them to feel at home.
A Culinary and Cultural Destination
Hotel Kinsley also draws visitors with its on-site dining: Restaurant Kinsley, a seasonal New American restaurant and bar that celebrates local ingredients and innovative menus.
But perhaps the most exciting recent addition is Assembly, a newly opened cultural and event venue located at 236 Wall Street. Situated on the top floor of a historic former schoolhouse, Assembly combines vintage architecture—think exposed brick, arched windows, and soaring ceilings—with modern amenities like a built-in stage, lighting and sound systems, and flexible layouts for everything from art shows to weddings.
A more intimate Assembly Conference Room also accommodates up to 40 guests, perfect for offsite meetings or private events, and includes full audiovisual capabilities.
Joining a Global Network, Staying Local at Heart
By joining Design Hotels, a curated network of independent, design-forward properties under the Marriott Bonvoy umbrella, Hotel Kinsley becomes part of a global hospitality conversation. Yet its essence remains firmly rooted in Kingston’s local culture.
“From the beginning, our vision for Hotel Kinsley was to create something rooted in Kingston’s history and energy while also offering a modern, design-forward experience,” said Charles Blaichman, who co-owns the hotel with Michael Barry. “Becoming part of the Design Hotels community affirms that vision—and with the opening of Assembly, we’re excited to further provide a cultural and creative hub for both locals and visitors.”
