A Return to Classic Roots with a Modern Twist
Designed as a purist enduro machine, the 2026 BMW R 12 G/S captures the timeless character of the original R 80 G/S, while delivering the performance and features expected from today’s riders. “With the new BMW R 12 G/S, BMW Motorrad is offering a classic enduro for puristic off-road fun,” said Markus Lederer, Head of Boxer Series. “We know that numerous fans have been eagerly waiting for this motorcycle.”
The new R 12 G/S revives the “G/S” spirit—Gelände / Straße (Off-road / Street)—and showcases a rugged yet refined design with a high front fender, cross-spoke wheels, and a minimalist cockpit fairing.
Power and Precision for On- and Off-Road Adventures
At its core lies a powerful 1,170 cc air/oil-cooled two-cylinder boxer engine delivering 109 hp and 85 lb-ft of torque. “With the air/oil-cooled boxer engine from the R 12 family, the new BMW R 12 G/S has an ideal enduro drive for ambitious off-road fun,” noted Norbert Rebholz, Boxer Series Project Manager.
The R 12 G/S includes standard “RAIN,” “ROAD,” and “ENDURO” riding modes, along with Dynamic Traction Control and Engine Drag Torque Control. For more hardcore off-roaders, the optional Enduro Package Pro adds an “ENDURO PRO” mode, 18-inch rear wheel, off-road tires, and advanced ergonomic upgrades.
Engineered for Adventure
Designed for both performance and comfort, the R 12 G/S features fully adjustable 45 mm upside-down front forks, a Paralever rear swingarm, and long suspension travel—8.3 inches front and 7.9 inches rear. The optional Enduro Package Pro further boosts ground clearance to 10.0 inches.
To support off-road exploration, the R 12 G/S includes cross-spoke wheels (21-inch front, 17-inch rear standard; 18-inch rear optional), BMW Motorrad ABS Pro, and Hill Start Assist Pro. The ergonomic setup includes a flat solo seat (33.9 inches standard), adjustable handlebars, and lashing points for bags or gear.
