Peugeot 9X8 Shines at Spa: A Thrilling Qualifying at the TotalEnergies 6 Hours

SHERIDAN, WYOMING – June 15, 2025 – The excitement is building as Team Peugeot TotalEnergies gears up for the 2025 TotalEnergies 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps with a standout qualifying performance that has racing fans buzzing.

In a dramatic showdown on the iconic “Ardennes Rollercoaster,” both Peugeot 9X8 Hypercars stormed into the Hyperpole session, setting the stage for one of their strongest qualifying efforts yet in the Hypercar era. For motorsport enthusiasts and Peugeot fans alike, this is a thrilling sign of what’s to come on race day.

A proud home performance for Stoffel Vandoorne

Stoffel Vandoorne, racing in front of his home crowd in Belgium, delivered a stunning lap in Hyperpole to secure the fourth fastest time of the session. Clocking in at 2:00.218, his performance placed the PEUGEOT 9X8 #94 on the second row of the starting grid—marking a high point in the team's qualifying history.

Qualifying was quite tricky because we had some small issues in Free Practice 3. So I was relatively cautious during the session and finished 10th, which was enough to make it into Hyperpole. There, I knew what to expect from the car and tires, so I was able to push. I’m very proud of this fourth-place result today.

Record-breaking pace from Jean-Eric Vergne

Teammate Jean-Eric Vergne delivered fireworks of his own in the #93 PEUGEOT 9X8. In the initial Qualifying round, he shattered the Hypercar category lap record at Spa with a blistering time of 2:00.448, securing second place and a coveted spot in the Hyperpole shootout.

Though the tires behaved differently during the 12-minute Hyperpole session, Vergne still managed to secure seventh on the grid.

Qualifying went really well. Right from the start, I felt good in the car. One lap was enough for me to set the second-best time. In Hyperpole, the feeling was different with the tires, I don’t know why. It was a bit tricky. But P7 is not a bad place to start a six-hour race…

A breakthrough for Team Peugeot TotalEnergies

With both PEUGEOT 9X8s advancing to Hyperpole, the team celebrates its best qualifying outcome since launching the Hypercar program. It’s a major confidence boost heading into one of the most challenging endurance races on the calendar.

I’m obviously very happy with the result, with both PEUGEOT 9X8s making it into Hyperpole. These are our best qualifying results since the start of the Hypercar program, and here no less than at the ‘Ardennes Rollercoaster,’ a very demanding circuit with long straights and high-speed corners — a real driver’s track. And we’re proud to have great drivers in the Peugeot TotalEnergies team! This result highlights the hard work and commitment of everyone involved. Our pace is good, but tomorrow in the race we’ll also need a strong strategy and to manage the many variables that will arise,” said Jean-Marc Finot, Senior VP of Stellantis Motorsport.
