Princess Yachts, a name synonymous with craftsmanship and innovation in the world of luxury motor yachts, proudly celebrates its 60th anniversary this year. Equally celebrating the milestone is the company’s largest global distributor, Princess Motor Yacht Sales, which also reaches its own 60-year mark in 2025.
Founded in Plymouth, Devon, in August 1965 by David King, Princess Yachts began its journey as Marine Projects. It was a humble start in a rented shed on Newport Street, where King and two partners completed their first vessel—Project 31—for just £3,400. This first model launched what would become one of the most successful luxury yacht brands in the world.
From Shed to Shipyard: A Rich Heritage of British Boatbuilding
Princess Yachts has always pushed boundaries, building a legacy on performance, innovation, and style. The early introduction of models like the 286 Riviera helped secure the brand’s position in the high-speed sports cruiser market, while the launch of the Princess 65 in 1990 elevated the company to new heights in the luxury yacht sector.
Over time, the company evolved its operations, officially becoming Princess Yachts International plc in 2001 and later transitioning to Princess Yachts Limited. A major milestone was achieved in 2009 with the acquisition of South Yard, a 15-acre waterfront site formerly part of the Royal Naval Dockyard, opening the door to the superyacht category.
In recent years, Princess Yachts has continued to evolve. In February 2023, the brand was acquired by U.S.-based investment firm KPS Capital Partners. This change in ownership marked a new chapter, with former Sales Director Will Green stepping into the role of CEO.

This limited-edition yacht features an elegant, restyled profile, highlighted by a sleek vignetted hull graphic that extends the window line and features a bespoke ‘60 years’ emblem.
Attention to detail continues throughout the design. The canopy is available in three striking contrast flash colours, each complemented by a matching upholstery scheme with contrast piping, creating a harmonious, high-end look. At the helm, the commemorative ‘60 years’ emblem is embroidered into the seat, while a three-spoke steering wheel—borrowed from larger models—adds a premium touch.
