Continental’s Sarreguemines Tire Plant Earns Prestigious ISCC Plus Sustainability Certification

SHERIDAN, WYOMING – June 16, 2025 – Continental has announced that its tire plant in Sarreguemines, France, has been awarded the globally recognized ISCC Plus sustainability certification, highlighting a major milestone in the company's green transformation journey.

The certification not only strengthens Continental’s environmental credentials but also brings transparency and assurance to consumers seeking more sustainable product choices. It confirms the plant’s use of renewable and recycled raw materials and the traceability of these materials throughout the production process.

A strong step toward a greener future

Continental has committed to using over 40% renewable and recycled raw materials in its tires by 2030. The ISCC Plus certification plays a key role in achieving this goal by enabling a mass balance approach that blends fossil, renewable, and recycled inputs while maintaining strict documentation and traceability.

This process ensures that every tire produced at the Sarreguemines plant can be linked to the certified proportion of sustainable materials used, offering consumers a more eco-conscious option without compromising on quality or performance.

Sustainability across global locations

Sarreguemines is now part of a growing group of Continental facilities with ISCC Plus certification, including locations in:

  • Lousado, Portugal
  • Hefei, China
  • Puchov, Slovakia
  • Korbach, Germany

This expansion demonstrates Continental’s global push for responsible manufacturing practices and materials management.

Commitment recognized at all levels

The achievement was praised by Jorge Almeida, head of sustainability for Continental Tires, who said:
“Step by step, we are working to ensure that all of our tire plants worldwide have the internationally recognized ISCC Plus certification. The certification of our tire plant in Sarreguemines underscores our strong commitment to more transparency along the entire supply chain, while enabling the introduction of new and more sustainable materials.”

The recognition also celebrates the hard work of the Sarreguemines team, as highlighted by Didier Fuchs, head of the plant:
“Receiving the ISCC Plus certification is a strong recognition of our team’s commitment here in Sarreguemines. We are continuously integrating more sustainable solutions into our production processes. Together, we are shaping a more resource-efficient and responsible future.”

What this means for consumers

For tire buyers, this certification offers a reliable indicator of Continental’s efforts toward sustainability:

  • Transparent sourcing and traceability of materials
  • Gradual increase in the use of renewable and recycled inputs
  • Globally standardized processes verified by an independent body

The ISCC Plus label is more than a badge—it’s a promise to consumers that sustainability is being built into every step of the tire-making process.

Eco-conscious driving, one tire at a time

With the Sarreguemines plant now ISCC Plus-certified, Continental continues to empower consumers with greener choices, pushing the industry toward a future where mobility meets responsibility.
