SHERIDAN, WYOMING – June 15, 2025 – PEUGEOT thrilled motorsport fans with the highly anticipated world premiere of its new all-electric E-208 GTi at the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans, blending modern innovation with a legacy of pure driving pleasure.
The unveiling took place on Friday, June 13, when the sleek E-208 GTi made its first lap around the iconic Le Mans circuit. To mark this special moment, it was accompanied by 30 vintage 205 GTi models driven by passionate owners — a nostalgic yet forward-looking celebration of the GTi legacy.
A Powerful Return of a Driving Icon
Marking the official return of the GTi badge, the new E-208 GTi is PEUGEOT’s latest expression of electric performance and design allure. With the launch taking place exactly 40 years after the debut of the original 205 GTi, the symbolic parade was nothing short of breathtaking.
At 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, the E-208 GTi made its dynamic debut on the full 13.626 km Le Mans circuit. Behind the wheel were two key figures: John ELKANN, CEO of STELLANTIS, and Alain FAVEY, CEO of PEUGEOT — highlighting the model’s significance for the brand and the broader Stellantis group.
A Historic Parade Filled with Emotion
The lap wasn’t just a test drive — it was a full-blown homage. Among the parade of 205 GTi vehicles, one standout was the original, first-ever 205 GTi, loaned by Aventure PEUGEOT. This car was driven by Jean-Philippe IMPERATO, Chief Operating Officer of Stellantis Enlarged Europe, and Jean-Marc Finot, Senior Vice President of Stellantis Motorsport.
For Finot, the moment was deeply personal. “It was an emotional moment for Jean-Marc Finot, who was part of the design team for the 205 GTi 40 years ago and who supervised the design of the new PEUGEOT E-208 GTi, developed by PEUGEOT Sport.” His presence underscored the bridge between the past and PEUGEOT’s electric future.
Driving Forward with Passion and Innovation
PEUGEOT's renewed commitment to performance comes with an eco-conscious edge. The E-208 GTi is part of a broader electric revolution for the brand, which now boasts the widest EV lineup of any European mainstream carmaker, offering solutions from city cars to commercial vehicles.
