GM Names Duncan Aldred as President of North America to Drive Customer-Centric Growth

SHERIDAN, WYOMING – May 6, 2025 – General Motors is turning to a seasoned leader with a track record of driving brand success and customer satisfaction. Duncan Aldred has officially been appointed Senior Vice President and President of GM’s North America business, taking the reins at a time when the automotive giant is poised to deepen its connection with consumers and expand its momentum in both electric and traditional vehicles.

A Trusted Leader for a Changing Market

Aldred brings over three decades of experience within GM to his new role. Most recently Vice President of Commercial Growth Strategies and Operations, he now steps into the North American leadership position with a clear focus: empower teams to better serve consumers in a rapidly evolving automotive landscape.

“Duncan comes to the role leading our North America business having driven a decade of growth in Buick and GMC, and most recently leading and modernizing our commercial operations to better serve our customers,” said Rory Harvey, GM Executive VP and President, Global Markets.

With EVs growing in popularity and customers expecting seamless digital and in-dealership experiences, Aldred’s leadership is set to shape the future of how GM meets consumer needs—whether on the lot or online.

A Customer-First Approach to Growth

Aldred's appointment reflects GM's strategy to provide "unrivaled choice across our ICE and EV portfolio, from brands they love and trust," according to Harvey. For customers, this means access to a broad and dynamic lineup of vehicles and services—backed by a company committed to listening, evolving, and delivering.

“With the best and broadest portfolio in the business and a team that is totally focused on our customers, GM is in a strong position in North America,” said Aldred.

He emphasized his vision of strengthening collaboration with teams, dealers, and partners, stating, “I’m looking forward to continuing to work with our teams, dealers, and partners to bring our customers the best possible sales and ownership experience with GM, so that we can continue to win in North America.”

A Legacy of Brand Growth and Innovation

Aldred's impressive resume includes global leadership roles in the UK and Europe, as well as a transformative tenure overseeing Buick and GMC. Highlights from his career include:

  • Launching successful sub-brands like Buick Avenir and GMC AT4
  • Shifting Buick’s product strategy toward SUVs
  • Achieving record-breaking GMC pickup sales
  • Leading both brands to a decade-long streak in the top two of the JD Power Customer Sales and Service Satisfaction survey

His most recent role also included oversight of strategic growth platforms such as:

  • GM Energy
  • GM Envolve
  • OnStar
  • Digital Sales and Service
  • Customer Care and Aftersales

This experience positions him to continue enhancing how customers interact with GM brands—whether they're buying their first EV or accessing advanced connected services.

What This Means for GM Customers

Under Aldred’s leadership, GM customers across North America can expect:

  • Continued innovation across gas-powered and electric vehicles
  • A more modern, seamless purchase and service experience
  • Stronger support through GM’s digital and aftersales platforms

Whether you’re eyeing a rugged GMC pickup, a tech-forward Buick SUV, or the latest EV offering from Cadillac or Chevrolet, GM’s future is looking increasingly customer-focused and experience-driven.
