Nestlé Delivers Protein-Powered Innovation for Weight Management and GLP-1 Users

SHERIDAN, WYOMING – April 15, 2025 - Nestlé is once again demonstrating its leadership in nutritional science with a cutting-edge approach to weight management, especially for consumers using GLP-1 weight loss medications. With a growing focus on health-conscious living, Nestlé is tapping into its deep expertise in protein innovation to offer solutions that are both effective and convenient.

Nestlé’s latest breakthrough centers around its proprietary whey protein microgel technology, a powerful innovation designed to support appetite control and blood sugar regulation. These advancements are especially beneficial to those navigating weight loss and the side effects of GLP-1 receptor agonists.

Transforming Protein Science for Everyday Health

“Whey protein is known for its high nutritional quality but can clump together when heated as a concentrated liquid, an essential step for making shelf-stable ready-to-drink beverages. This can result in increased thickness of the liquid and off flavors,” explained Christophe Schmitt, Senior Expert Protein Science & Technology at Nestlé Research. “Our novel technology enables us to develop beverages with high concentrations of whey protein, while ensuring great taste and texture for the consumer. This can lead to breakthrough innovations that support weight management.”

Backed by 11 patents, this revolutionary protein solution is part of a broader effort that has seen Nestlé file over 100 whey protein-related patents in the last decade. Its clinical promise has been validated by a Nestlé-led study involving type-2 diabetes participants. Findings published in the Metabolites journal confirm that a 10g whey protein microgel pre-meal drink lowers glucose response and increases the body’s natural GLP-1 hormone production, aiding in satiety and digestive regulation.

New Products Deliver Real-Life Nutritional Support

These scientific findings are already hitting the shelves. The first commercial product to feature Nestlé’s microgel innovation is Boost® Pre-Meal Hunger Support, a pre-meal liquid shot designed to promote satiety. Taken 10 to 30 minutes before eating, it triggers natural GLP-1 production to help consumers feel satisfied and better manage their appetite.

Boost Pre-Meal Hunger Support is currently being tested in select markets across the United States, offering a convenient, on-the-go option for anyone looking to stay on top of their nutritional game.

Nestlé is also addressing a major concern among GLP-1 users—nutrient gaps and muscle loss. The company’s newly developed Boost® Advanced shake meets targeted nutritional needs with 35 grams of high-quality protein, key nutrients to support energy metabolism, and ingredients tailored to digestive health. Available in Rich Chocolate and French Vanilla, Boost Advanced will launch in the U.S. starting in June.

“We are leveraging our nutrition science expertise to support consumers on weight loss journeys, including GLP-1 medication users, with innovative solutions,” said Andrew Franklin, President, Holistic Health, Nestlé Health Science US. “As we explore complementary support to weight loss management, we aim to address arising nutritional needs like maintaining muscle mass and supporting metabolic health with innovations that come in convenient on-the-go formats.”

Expanding Options for On-the-Go Nutrition

In addition to Boost offerings, Nestlé has introduced Full Factor, a new protein-rich beverage under its Vital Pursuitbrand. Designed specifically for GLP-1 users, Full Factor packs 15 grams of protein and 10 grams of fiber, along with essential vitamins—all with no added sugar. Currently in shop test in the U.S., it’s a smart option for those seeking fullness and sustained energy between meals.

With these forward-thinking innovations, Nestlé is helping to reshape the landscape of weight management. Its science-backed, consumer-friendly products demonstrate how nutrition can be both powerful and practical.
