SHERIDAN, WYOMING – August 5, 2025 – Whether you're seeking a meditative stroll through contemporary expression or a burst of avant-garde performance energy, EBENSPERGER’s August calendar delivers a feast for the senses. With a blend of immersive exhibitions, thought-provoking performances, and standout appearances across Europe, the gallery and its artists are offering something more than just art — they’re offering presence, emotion, and deep engagement.
Christian Schwarzwald: ROAM through abstraction and identity
This month, EBENSPERGER's Berlin space welcomes visitors to ROAM, the new solo exhibition by Christian Schwarzwald. Known for blurring the lines between drawing, sculpture, and installation, Schwarzwald invites the viewer to wander — mentally and emotionally — through layered visual worlds.
But ROAM is only the start. Schwarzwald is also featured at Museum Liaunig in Neuhaus, Austria, adding a cross-border dimension to his already exploratory practice. It’s a rare chance to witness his evolving style in two very different contexts.
Berlin pulses with collaboration and performance
Berlin is buzzing — quite literally — with a cascade of collaborative efforts this August:
- Heiner Franzen teams up with John Bock for Psychonauts at Berlinische Galerie, an exhibition culminating in an intimate artist talk on August 1. Franzen also brings his kinetic visual language to the Foot Biennale’s Pop Up PLAY THE GAME.
- Jens Pecho, whose work often critiques social norms and politics, makes multiple appearances across Germany — from the 494h 29m 53s video installation at Akademie der Künste, to exhibitions in Wolfsburg, Memmingen, and Düsseldorf.
- Bjørn Melhus and Hajnal Németh also feature prominently in the Akademie der Künste show, while Melhus showcases his evocative dual-channel piece Revelation in Emden. Meanwhile, Németh leads the performance YELLOW SOLO at EBENSPERGER on August 31 — a live event that promises visceral impact.
UK stages spark with experimental voice and sound
For those across the channel, Tim Etchells takes the stage at London’s Whitechapel Gallery on August 28 with By Word of Mouth, an improvised performance exploring language, rhythm, and human connection. Etchells’ work often sits at the intersection of spoken word and physical presence — and this piece is no exception.
Sophie Utikal: Threading emotion through textile
In a softer, but equally powerful register, Sophie Utikal brings her delicate, deeply personal textile collages to four group exhibitions this season. From Villa Merkel in Esslingen, to Tatort Paderborn and Budapest Gallery, Utikal’s works stitch together themes of care, identity, and the female form. Her inclusion in Stoff. Textil und der Weibliche Akt II at Villa Schöningen in Potsdam offers a particularly resonant moment for fans of feminist and material-driven art.
A celebration of female perspectives
Female narratives take center stage this August in Unbeschreiblich weiblich - Frauenbilder in der DDR at Brandenburgisches Landesmuseum, featuring both Gundula Schulze Eldowy and Harry Hachmeister. Schulze Eldowy also presents her intense Aktportraits in Dresden and participates in a Luxembourg group show — showing how her lens continues to challenge and expand perceptions of the body and identity.
An immersive conclusion: YELLOW SOLO at Fichtebunker
Capping the month, EBENSPERGER’s YELLOW SOLO promises a deep auditory dive with Dylan Kerr and Weston Olencki performing Duo for Breath — a piece that explores the fragile intersection of voice and brass in the raw, echoing interior of the Fichtebunker in Berlin.
