SHERIDAN, WYOMING – April 20, 2025 - A leap forward in autonomous driving
Nissan has officially announced the upcoming launch of its next-generation ProPilot technology, scheduled for rollout beginning in fiscal year 2027. Positioned to redefine the standards of autonomous mobility, the new system will incorporate Nissan Ground Truth Perception technology, next-generation lidar, and Wayve’s cutting-edge AI Driver software.
Innovative technology driving the future
Advanced collision avoidance and real-world adaptability
The Japanese automaker emphasizes that the new ProPilot AD system will deliver unprecedented autonomous capabilities. Built on Wayve’s embodied AI foundation model, the AI Driver software is designed to manage highly complex, real-world driving scenarios with human-like responsiveness. Its data-driven learning model ensures rapid, continuous adaptation to real-time conditions, offering what Nissan calls a “continuous advantage to Nissan vehicles in the future.”
Recent milestones in development
Real-world testing and global collaboration
Nissan has recently wrapped up the UK’s most recent autonomous driving research project and has demonstrated the latest AD technologies in Japan, specifically in the Minato Mirai district of Yokohama. These real-world initiatives showcase the brand’s active role in advancing the reliability and readiness of autonomous driving.
Building on existing systems
Evolution from ProPilot Assist to next-gen autonomy
Currently, Nissan’s ProPilot Assist system provides hands-on driver assistance by integrating Intelligent Cruise Control and Steering Assist. It includes a stop-and-hold feature that allows the vehicle to come to a full stop, hold its position, and resume movement as traffic conditions permit.
ProPilot Assist with Navi-link enhances this experience by connecting with the vehicle’s navigation system. This feature supports functions like Speed Adjust by Route—to automatically slow for curves and off-ramps—and Speed Limit Assist, giving drivers the ability to align quickly with posted speed limits.
Looking ahead
As Nissan gears up for its 2027 launch of ProPilot AD, the company continues to push boundaries in autonomous innovation. Consumers and industry professionals alike can expect a future where intelligent, adaptive, and safe driving is more accessible than ever before.
