Chevy Silverado EV ZR2 Off-Road Race Truck Concept Tackles the Mint 400

SHERIDAN, WYOMING – Mar. 6, 2025 – Chevrolet has officially unveiled the Silverado EV ZR2 off-road race truck concept at the legendary Mint 400, one of the most grueling off-road races in the world. The cutting-edge electric race truck is set to compete in the Open Production EV class, with seasoned driver Chad Hall behind the wheel as part of the Hall Racing team lineup.

A New Era of Off-Road Racing

"There is no better proving ground to test the limits of our vehicles than competitive racing," said Scott Bell, vice president of Chevrolet. "The Silverado EV ZR2 race truck concept, which uses 98% GM production parts, showcases some of the best of Chevrolet to produce a beyond-capable pickup to tackle a challenging race of the Mint 400’s magnitude."

The Silverado EV ZR2 race truck concept follows the same proven ZR2 formula that has made Chevrolet a dominant force in off-road racing. Key features include:

  • Lifted front and rear suspension with specialized off-road tuning that maintains performance both on and off the pavement.
  • Multimatic damper technology for superior shock absorption and handling.
  • Locking differentials for maximum traction in rugged terrain.
  • Underbody skid protection to safeguard critical components during high-impact racing.

The race truck's off-road capability is enhanced by prototype Multimatic Adaptive Spool Valve continuously adaptive dampers, providing over 13 inches of front and rear wheel travel. Paired with 37-inch BF Goodrich KM3 Mud-Terrain tires and a tri-motor electric propulsion system generating 1,100 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft of torque, this EV race truck is engineered for extreme conditions.

Performance-Driven Innovation

Chevrolet engineers will work closely with Chad Hall Racing throughout the event to analyze the vehicle's performance, durability, and capability in real-world conditions. The data collected will inform future production models, performance parts, and accessories for Chevrolet customers. Currently, Chevrolet offers over 44 off-road performance parts and accessories for its production trucks.

"Working with the Chevy engineers is always a good day at the office," said Chad Hall, primary driver and owner of Hall Racing. "What we learn from racing is applied to vehicles consumers can buy. An off-road race like The Mint 400 is equivalent to a lifetime of vehicle wear and tear."

Hall Racing has been competing in Chevrolet vehicles since 2017, beginning with the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2. Over the years, the team has achieved remarkable success, finishing 53 of the 54 races entered.

The Future of Chevrolet Off-Road EVs

The debut of the Silverado EV ZR2 race truck concept comes as Chevrolet gears up to launch its 2026 Silverado EV Trail Boss this summer. Designed for off-road enthusiasts, the Trail Boss will feature:

  • Factory-installed lift for improved ground clearance.
  • 18-inch wheels paired with 35-inch all-terrain tires for enhanced off-road performance.
  • Red tow hooks for increased utility and recovery capabilities.
  • New Terrain Mode for superior maneuverability in tight spaces.

Additional details about the Silverado EV Trail Boss will be available soon, highlighting Chevrolet's commitment to pushing the boundaries of electric vehicle technology in the off-road segment.
