SHERIDAN, WYOMING – April 16, 2025 - Audi makes a high-voltage impression at the world’s top motor show with exclusive electric debuts tailored for China
Audi is setting the stage for a major reveal at the 2025 Auto Shanghai, highlighting its commitment to electrification and the Chinese market with a stunning showcase of 19 models, including the world premiere of the new AUDI E5 Sportback.
A strategic showcase tailored for China
From April 23 to May 2, Audi and its joint venture partners, FAW and SAIC, will take center stage at Auto Shanghai 2025, spotlighting innovations that reflect China’s leading role in the transition to electric mobility. Audi is leveraging this premier platform to present its expanding electric vehicle (EV) portfolio and reaffirm its commitment to a fast-growing and vital market.
“Last year, we took key steps to secure future success in China together with our joint-venture partners FAW and SAIC. As this important market develops further, our tailored models continue to grow in importance. At 2025 Auto Shanghai we are going to show that Audi delivers in China,” said Audi CEO Gernot Döllner.
Introducing the AUDI E5 Sportback: A first for the new China-exclusive brand
Among the most anticipated reveals is the AUDI E5 Sportback, the first production model from Audi’s new China-only brand, AUDI – styled in all capital letters. The vehicle embodies Audi’s DNA, blended with a fresh identity designed to resonate with a new generation of Chinese drivers.
Following the philosophy of offering “the best of both worlds,” the AUDI E5 Sportback combines fully electric performance with Audi’s signature coupé design. “E” signifies its electric heart, “5” denotes its place in the mid-size segment, and “Sportback” delivers unmistakable Audi flair. The model will hit the Chinese market in late summer 2025.
A quartet of China-specific premieres
Alongside the AUDI E5 Sportback, Audi is also set to unveil four additional vehicles developed with Chinese consumers in mind: the Audi A6L e-tron, Audi A5L, Audi A5L Sportback, and the Audi Q5L.
The Audi A6L e-tron, in particular, marks a production milestone. It will be manufactured at the Audi FAW NEV Company plant in Changchun, which completed construction in late 2024 and began production that December. This signals a significant stride in Audi’s localization strategy, reinforcing its ability to deliver premium EVs built in China for China.
Audi and AUDI – a joint presence with a unified vision
In a first for Auto Shanghai, Audi and the new AUDI brand will be presented together at a joint booth, located in Hall 5.1 H, Booth 5A03. Visitors can explore the synergies between the two brands and experience Audi’s cutting-edge technologies across both traditional and electric vehicles.
The booth is designed to be interactive and immersive, showcasing innovations in range and charging speed, driver assistance systems, aerodynamics, and lighting design. It also features Audi’s latest evolution: the next-generation intelligent cockpit, a holistic digital experience tailored to the preferences of Chinese users. Built on a new electronics architecture, it delivers an entirely customizable interface and seamless connectivity.
Captivating experiences meet high-performance innovation
More than just a display of vehicles, the Audi booth promises a personalized consumer journey—one that celebrates design, performance, and technology while encouraging social media engagement. From quattro all-wheel drive systems to dynamic lighting and smart interiors, every detail is crafted to reflect the brand’s ambition and evolution in the world’s largest auto market.
