Her Majesty – BAKLAVA

Baklava is a cake of oriental origin that is made using phyllo dough, thinly layered and in several, usually a dozen or more layers, between which a mixture of ground nuts and alternately, finely ground sugar dough is added. It is cut into pieces that resemble a rhombus. After prolonged baking at low temperature, it is coated with agda (sugar syrup).

Baklava is a traditional dish in the Balkans as well as across the Orient. Its exact origins are still unknown, but we can say that is has roots in Arabian, Turkish as well as Greece cuisine. Baklava is traditionally considered a special holiday cake in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
